Half Moon Bay Library was recently visited by a class of fourth graders. One of them wanted to know if I had any ideas of what to read after a person has read all of Lemony Snicket's stories. I'd like to think I have all this wisdom stored somewhere in the recesses of my brain, but I actually went to one of the online tools that we make available through the Research tab on our homepage, Novelist K-8 (a database available to San Mateo County Library cardholders with barcodes starting with 29041). This database is really useful for finding similar authors or series.
In this case, I discovered that William Joyce has published the first book in a planned series called The Guardians. This first book is titled Nicholas St. North and the Battle of the Nightmare King. Another popular author who has been working on a series is Jane Yolen. Tartan Magic's first volume is called The Wizard’s Map.
I hope these two suggestions lead you on some interesting adventures, and remember that if you're stuck for more ideas give Novelist K-8 a try.
