The Last Dogs: The Vanishing, by Christopher Holt
A Book for Dog Lovers
As you know from my previous blogs, I am a big fan of dogs, and I love to read about them, both fiction and non-fiction. Recently, I placed a hold on The Last Dogs: The Vanishing by Christopher Holt, and to my surprise it turned out to be a children’s book! I was so intrigued I read it anyway, and loved it. The action and suspense in this adventure story, which is occasionally violent and sad, keeps the pace moving quickly. It has all the qualities of a good series novel.
Max, a Labrador and the main character in the book, sets out to find his owners who have vanished with all the other humans in the area. Along the way he partners up with Rocky, a Dachshund, and later on Gizmo, a small but fearless mutt, and you have a tale of three unlikely friends on an epic quest to find their people -- and bring them home.
About the Author
Christopher Holt grew up in a house filled with dogs, and draws on his memories to create the four-legged heroes of The Last Dogs. The second book in the series, The Last Dogs: Dark Waters, is expected out in Summer 2013. If you liked Erin Hunt’s Survivors series, you will like The Last Dogs.
