I Did It Again!

Jack And The Baked Beanstalk by Colin StimpsonA Treasure!

I was once again rummaging through the book drop when I came across a striking picture book that I had never seen before. I check the book drop often because I believe that if a book was sufficiently interesting for someone else to check out, maybe I'll like it. I'm often proved wrong. But in this case paydirt!

My great find was Jack and the Baked Beanstalk by Colin Stimpson. This is a new picture book with illustrations the likes of which I'd never seen before and a great twist on an old tale. On the book's dust jacket was the information that Stimpson had illustrated another picture book How to Cook Children: A Grisly Recipe Book by Martin Howard. Another masterpiece. I decided that I needed to know more about Colin Stimpson and sure enough he does have a web page. From there I learned that he had done a lot of work with Disney Pictures including creative directing for The Emperor's New Groove and he also did some illustrations for the young adult novel The Poison Diaries. So I'm going to keep the name Colin Stimpson somewhere in mind in hopes of other books with that name will appear on the new book shelf or the book drop.
