Goodnight iPad

Goodnight IPad: A Parody For The Next Generation by Ann DroydIn the bright buzzing room, it is time to power down. Here is a modern bedtime story about bidding our gadgets goodnight. Don't worry, though. They'll be waiting for us, fully charged, in the morning.

Goodnight iPad: A Parody for the Next Generation offers a new twist on the classic Goodnight Moon, but the title sounds like a promotional trailer for Ditch Your Device/Screen Free Week, an annual event in which parents, children, teachers, and others across the country turn off screen media (TV, video games, computers, cell phones, etc.) and celebrate the magic of being unplugged. This year’s event is: April 29 - May 5.

Ditch Your Device Events

Brisbane Library will be hosting a week’s worth of exciting programming. We invite you to make an effort to unplug and explore the joy of making a craft, having an uninterrupted conversation, playing with your child, or reading a favorite story aloud. Scheduled programs include a special Kindie Rock performance Thursday, May 2 at 4:30 pm with cult favorite Randy Kaplan. His latest album, Randy's NAPPA Gold Award-winning Country Blues & Ragtime CD for Kids, Mr. Diddie Wah Diddie, has been released to much acclaim and his music is described as “offbeat, smart, and funny, funny, funny!" His performances are targeted for the 3 to 8-year-old set and their families.

Another special Ditch Your Device event will be the parenting workshop "Media, Technology and Early Childhood Development: What Parents Need to Know," led by Holly Pedersen, Ph.D, at 7:30 pm Tuesday, April 30. Holly will cover all your questions about how apps and screen time affect your baby, toddler, or preschooler’s development.
